Regulator safety
Our guide to regulator safety
Know your regulators
Propane bottles contain considerably greater pressure than butane cylinders. Cylinder regulators designed for use with either propane or butane are not interchangeable because of:
- Their different design pressure
- The dissimilar bottle valves for the two gases
The regulator must be matched to the appliance working pressure and throughout use:
- High pressure regulators for equipment designed for high pressure (usually 1 bar / 15psi; 0-2 bar / 0-30 psi) propane.
- Low pressure regulators for equipment designed for low pressure, usually 28mbar (11.2in WG) butane or 37 mbar (14.8in WG) propane.
Selecting the correct regulator
To select the correct regulator, check the appliance catalogue or examine the appliance itself. There should be a data plate stating the required throughput and inlet pressure.
If in doubt, consult the appliance manufacturer or contact us, we’re here to help.
Fitting of hoses and regulators to gas bottles
Hoses and regulators should comply with the relevant British and European standards.
Only 20mm regulators should be used with Flogas blue cylinders, and 21mm regulators with Flogas gold cylinders.
